Learning from a River, Graduate School Dean Shares a Message of Perseverance with 57 Graduates
MAKASSAR, October 24 — The Graduate School of Hasanuddin University (SPs UNHAS) held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Fachruddin Auditorium, SPs UNHAS. A total of 57 graduates were recognized, including 46 master’s graduates and 11 doctoral graduates. In his address, SPs UNHAS Dean Prof. Sukri Palutturi shared a message about perseverance, drawing inspiration from the journey of a flowing river.
“Learn from a river. Flowing down from the mountains, a river passes over rocks, fallen trees, and difficult terrain. Yet it does not stop when it encounters obstacles. It keeps finding a way forward. Our journeys are much the same. They are not always easy, but we must keep striving and moving forward,” Prof. Sukri told the graduates.
Through this analogy, Prof. Sukri reminded the graduates that challenges are an inevitable part of life, including the pursuit of education. The determination to keep moving forward despite difficulties, he emphasized, is an important lesson for graduates as they embark on the next stage of their lives, whether in their careers, public service, or contributions to society through their respective fields.
The total number of graduates was announced by Prof. Dr. Ir. Nadiarti Nurdin Kadir, M.Sc., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at SPs UNHAS. The ceremony also recognized graduates who had achieved outstanding academic results at both the master’s and doctoral levels.
Andi Rahmat Saleh, from the Doctoral Program in Development Studies, was named the outstanding doctoral graduate, earning a GPA of 3.96 and the distinction of Very Satisfactory. Meanwhile, Meilani from the Biomedical Sciences Master’s Program was recognized as the outstanding master’s graduate, achieving a perfect GPA of 4.00.
The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Ir. H. Lutfi Halide, M.P., Chair of the SPs UNHAS Alumni Association; Dr. Ir. Syahriadi Kadir, M.Si., Vice Dean for Planning and Resources; Prof. Dr. dr. Marhaen Hardjo, M.Biomed., Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Alumni; and Prof. Dr. Tuti Bahfiarti, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of the Quality Assurance and Reputation Enhancement Unit (GPM-PR).
Through the graduation ceremony, SPs UNHAS celebrated the achievements of its master’s and doctoral graduates as they completed their studies. The knowledge and experience they gained are expected to serve as a foundation for continued growth, resilience in the face of challenges, and meaningful contributions to society.
