Unhas Graduate School Community Service Team Conducts Stunting Education Program in Soppeng Regency

This Stunting Education Program, part of a community service initiative, was held on Thursday, 10 November 2022, from 10:00 WITA until completion, at the Tetewatu Village Office, Lilirilau Subdistrict, Soppeng Regency, organized in collaboration between the Unhas Graduate School and the Soppeng Regency Government.

The event aimed to share knowledge about stunting and to discuss potential cooperation in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education between the Graduate School of Universitas Hasanuddin and the Soppeng Regency Government.

The Dean of the Unhas Graduate School, Prof. dr. Budu, Ph.D., Sp. M.,(K).,M.Med.Ed, stated in his remarks that this would not be a one-time meeting, but rather the beginning of ongoing cooperation for stunting prevention. He emphasized the commitment to finding solutions for the children who will become the special generation for Soppeng, noting that the young children here today may, 15 years from now, go on to study abroad. He added that beyond the issue of stunting, the cooperation sought with the Soppeng Regency Government also extends to the Graduate School's Doctoral and Master's programs, which are closely related to regional development.

The event was opened by the Vice Regent of Soppeng, Ir. H. Lutfi Halide, MP, who explained that the duties of a Vice Regent, as stipulated by law, include overseeing regional development, with an additional responsibility for stunting prevention in Soppeng Regency. He also stated that whatever Unhas wishes to pursue is welcome, as long as it aligns with existing programs. He noted that Soppeng faces challenges such as excessively large forest areas, and while the regency is rich in mangroves, many residents have migrated elsewhere for work.

It is hoped that this community service program conducted by the Unhas Graduate School can encourage the residents of Tetewatu Village to become more aware of stunting prevention for the future of their children, explained Mr. Lutfi Halide.
