Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder which is a disease in the field of psychiatry. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Sodium Divalproate as an adjuvant therapy for the improvement of symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia given haloperidol. This study was conducted experimentally on a total of 30 patients with paranoid schizophrenia who were hospitalized at the RSKD, South Sulawesi Province. The sample was divided into a control group that only received the antipsychotic haloperidol as many as 15 people and an adjuvant therapy group consisting of 15 patients who received haloperidol and sodium valproate therapy. The response to therapy was assessed by means of a positive PANSS score at the start of therapy, the first week of therapy, and the second week of therapy. Through statistical analysis, no significant difference was found between the improvement of positive symptoms of recurrent paranoid schizophrenia between the control group and the adjuvant therapy group. However, the adjuvant sodium divalproate group showed better symptom improvement, especially at the initiation of therapy, which means that this group experienced a faster clinical response than the control group.
